I suggest being able to read/answer emails in landscape as it would make the text more legible as well as the keyboard keys bigger. I also think that connecting to the internet is presently too slow. I am not familiar if my suggestions can be solved with software update or if hardware upgrade is needed.

It would be nice to have the option to block my number for some calls and have it unblocked by entering *82 for others. My old cheap phone had that option so I know it can be done. Thanks.

When one receives a media message they point you to some At&T website with an awful randomly generated username/password. It would be nice if you could hit a button and have that information transferred into Safari (on the phone) so that you don't have to keep switching back and forth from the message to the browser in order to correctly type in username/password

i would like it if we could recieve picture messages through texts like normal phones because its alot harder to do it rhough email in my opinion.

I'm really big on texting and I was actually disappointed to find out that I can't forward my messages. Every phone I know has this feature! And I can't send or recieve picture messages!! This really sucks!! You ask a ridiclous price for this phone and these really important things are missing?!! What about video? I can take all the pictures I want but I can't take any video footage? You guys need to really step it up and figure It out!

Picture messaging and the capability to delete multiple emails at one time would be nice.

I personally think that when you take a photo, you should be able to hit either volume button when holding sideways, simulating a standard camera instead of tapping the screen.

Unknown said...

Please add a cut and paste feature and also why do we have to log onto to receive SMS messages

Wagi said...

I think the sms part of iphone has really been overlooked. For instance how about a draft folder so that you can write an sms and send it later.
On my previous phone I could tell if someone had received my text message.
Also, what about a cut and paste feature where you can edit an sms in notes and transfer it into sms.

Unknown said...

-be able to choose from default SMS messages already created.
-be able to add a pic from camera roll into an emailalready created

The Apple iPhone 'Stocks' application would be hugely more useful if the percentage and absolute numbers displayed would be for the time period selected for the graphical display; i.e. change for the week, month, year, etc. instead of only for the day.
This suggestion is submitted for free use by anyone willing and able to apply it.

I don't have an iPhone yet, but I've seen the newspaper articles and I'm very excited about it! I hope (since I haven't had the chance to play with it yet) that my suggestion hasn't already been implemented, but here goes. I'm a musician and I spend many hours composing music. I often find that my best ideas come to me at the most inconvenient times - driving, eating in a restaurant, etc. It would be wonderful if I could just make a few taps on my future iPhone so that I wouldn't forget a good idea. The problem is I need a quick and convenient way to call up chords as well as melodies. This requires some ingenuity, but I know it can be done because I've written my own java software that makes it a snap. I click a button that says something like "II7, V9, I7" and voila! I then have another button that produces higher or lower inversions of the chord with a single click. If musicians could record drum beats, melodies, and chords, then all of the bases are covered. They could solidify their ideas for the next great symphony on planes, trains, and automobiles.

iPhone should be able to auto-detect phone numbers in Notes, Safari, Mail, and really any other application. You should be able to, say, hold your finger on the phone number for a second or two, and the iPhone will give you the option of making the call.

I get phone numbers in my email all the time and I frequently use Notes to take down temporary phone numbers, so it would be nice if I could actually call these numbers without quickly memorizing them or writing them on a piece of paper.

Unknown said...

It would be awesome if Apple added a repeating sound alert instead of only a one time alert when you get a new text or voicemail. That way we don't have to constantly be checking our phone to see if there's a new message. My old phone had this feature and it was just a regular plain cell phone. I'm really surprised/disappointed that the iphone doesn't already have this.

allow to-do list in iCal on Mac to sync with Calendar on the iPhone (ie put a to do list in Calendar)

Unknown said...

*safari should keep at least the last page visited in memory so when you accidentally "click" a link and u immediately have to go back it isn't so time consuming and frustrating.

*All updates should make the phone faster, not slower. Since 2.0 I have to wait for the typing function to catch up :/

Unknown said...

I've noted that in the contacts you can enter the date of someone birthday, however; there's no way to set a reminder of that person's birthday unless you go into the calender and manual input it there as well. My suggestion is to create a way for the iPhone to tell you there is a birthday coming up.

Our management team met today to discuss purchasing iPhones for all our field techs. We liked everything about the iPhone, except for its apparent inability to print wirelessly through Bluetooth. Our field techs carry portable printers with them, and they would need the iPhone to be able to print. Until that happens, we will continue using the Verizon and Samsung PDA's that we've been using.

Hi all. I would like to see the GPS apps improved. Specifically, having the maps track your movements (i.e. scroll automatically) as you move. Currently, you have to scroll manually with your finger

Unknown said...

I think that you should be able to add words to a dictionary for sending text messages. I may type a short response to someone and click send really quick but, it changes what I say. In fact, you should be allowed to have multiple dictionaries (at least two). I could use one for proper grammar and one for talking to my friends. Each could hold a couple hundred new words. I'm thinking that can't utilize much memory. I know for fact it wouldn't take up much space.

Robb Gorringe said...

I send alot of bulk Txt, (30-40 at a time), but I'm unable to save them as a "group", nor add someone else when i want. This feature would be nice.

Unknown said...

Photo folders should sort by name, NOT the date the folder was created!!!

Unknown said...

Please let us rotate the phone into landscape for email and sms text messages so that two finger typing is easier on the bigger keyboard... :)

Unknown said...

The iPhone and iPod touch should have the ability to customize the springboard with backgrounds, docks, and icons. without jailbreak so it is included in the firmware in the settings. i think that would be awsome. and if apple had to be really gay, they could charge for each theme! LOL

Unknown said...

I've had a Palm Pilot for 8 years and hesitated for too long to move to an iPhone - I heard that the two formats didn't translate. (I moved my calendar over in less than 1 minute.) And mostly I love the new 3G phone however, I truly miss not being able to search in the calendar - this might have been a deal breaker if I had known it before purchase. I hope they fix it.
Thanks for listening.

Unknown said...

There is no way of forwarding a contact to another phone either as an SMS or a Business Card. Also it would be great if there was an option to take off the spell checker when writing text messages as I write in shorthand and use slang. It's a pain when the phone is choosing words for you that you don't want to use.

Unknown said...

I use the phone for work a lot, specifically checking emails when I'm away from the computer. It'd be nice if iphone had a little more extensive email functions like: mark as read, flag email, etc. Especially mark as read, as I get emails to both my phone and my computer. A lot of times I've already read the email and don't need to read it again on my phone.

Wendy said...

Following are a few basic items I think would be very helpful:

1. Copy, cut & paste capability
2. Default to numbers when adding addresses (most addresses begin with a number)
3. Ability to add an arbitrary date range when adding recurring events to the calendar (in other words, not being limited to only every day, every week, every month, etc.) For example: every day until a certain end date.
4. Ability to delete multiple events from calendar - vs. having to enter each individual event to delete it.

Thanx...have a beautiful day!

I would like to be able to assign a ring to calls not in my address book. I want to know if the call is someone I don't know or I am unfamiliar enough with that they are not in my address book.

Unknown said...

When syncing the iPhone Contacts with Microsoft Outlook Apple needs to utilize the "File As" field in Outlook as the name in iPhone Contacts. The current system seems to be without logic. When there are two people in the same contact file with different names you never know how iPhone will file it. Example: Ruth Dennis & Robert Johnson - Outlook File As: Dennis, Ruth & Robert Johnson. iPhone should file this under "Dennis, Ruth". It does not. Please Apple, make this simple change!

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

Add an option to each contact to either Deny or Allow caller ID when calling that contact. Deny/Allow depends on whether you always block or allow caller ID. (You could always block caller ID, but allow it when calling friends/family, for example.)

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

This is a bit lengthy... Use the location service and maps to identify "action zones" (lack of a better term). When the phone (and you) enter or leave such a zone, various user defined/configured actions are executed. For example, when I am at work, I want the ringer volume to be reduced and various Alarms to be activated, those alarms would be deactivated if I'm not at work (such as a 9am meeting alarm that is not needed if I'm out sick - I would not have to manually deactivate it). I would have another zone defined along my commute home that would either call home or text that I'm on the way. Other zones could alert to speed traps, school crossings. Actions could be triggered by being in the zone or approaching the zone (an option per action), as leaving the zone or about to leave the zone. Actions would include sounding an alert, displaying a message, texting, making a call, adjusting settings (setting airplane mode, setting ringer volume, activation of individual alarms, connect to a specific WiFi network, etc.), run a specific application, etc.
Zones would be defined as closed polygons, would not overlap(?), and could include an altitude that would help in office buildings (different settings in the cafeteria v. the "suit floor").

On the main screen, if there are many pages, there should be a way to get to each page. For example, if there are 20 pages and you are on page 1, you would have to swipe 20 times to get to page 20. It would be easier to just slide your finger to get to page 20. Maybe it should be similar to the address book, where you can slide your finger on the side of the screen to go to certain letters of the address book.

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

This might be an iTunes suggestion, but I would to omit "suggested contacts" when syncing with GMail contacts.

Unknown said...

I agree with the birthday suggestion. I was just setting up my iPhone and it would be nice to enter the birthday under someone's contact page, then be able to set it a yearly reminder and have it appear on my calendar.

I'm use to the blackberry, so when I purchased this phone I thought I was really upgrading..(not) what I miss the most about my blackberry is the copy and paste feature, this is like a must. Next is, I miss my video recorder, and being able to send it through text message, and receive video text without the extra crap. And If I received an important text I could forward that portion of the text to all my contacts at one time. Please work on some new applications.

Please add the feature to sms txt that if u turn your iPhone horizontaly the keyboard will be horizontal
Thankyou it would be great if u did this since the keyboard is so small and i have giant fingers

James said...

Email: Insert photo into email already created

video capability

MMS - insert pics or video into SMS & RECEIVE MMS... no more web links with passwords

SMS - more features: draft, templates, separate Save folder, etc.

SMS - option to NOT show SMS messages on screen before unlocking. Sometimes I just don't want the message revealed to the public if my phone is left sitting out.

SMS - forwarding option

Use volume button to click cameral - the screen button is poorly placed

Copy & Paste - within same or different apps

Typing & Read email in Landscape mode

Syncing - better syncing options through iTunes: I think there's an all or nothing of either phone or computer overwriting. What about "most recent" for a given situation?

Phone Numbers (or addresses) in emails or messages - give option to save/add to Contacts (not just Call or Cancel)

Tasking feature - Just like outlook... present options to Make Call, or write in description of Task; recurring; reminder prompt X time before event; postpone after reminding.

This should be a good start...

Unknown said...

The iphone 'recent' contacts needs the ability to delete individual contacts that were either called or call received. Currently you have to delete the entire call log. Also, you can't place anonymous calls very easily from the keypad. You have to go into settings and fumble around with the caller info. That should be accessible from the keypad.

Is there a way to Sync iPhone calendar with gmail calendar? If not it should be developed.

danyelly said...

Calendar application needs to have the option of recurring dates such as "1st tuesday of every month". The current "every month" option is really only useful with pay days, whereas there are many events that recur on a certain day of the month.

please make the iPhone dialing and visual voice mail applications landscape and make an iWatch band that will stay in place on my wrist while I drive and when I am working

Unknown said...

I agree about the pic messaging. atleast make an app for it. the entire SMS system is lacking we should be able to forward and use the landscape keyboard as well

Captain Eyeliner said...

Please include syncing with the Stickies Application. I use it constantly but can't access them on different computers. And it's not even on the iphone as far as i can tell.

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

iPhone has notes, which is similar, might be able to interface between the two, although the data content might be different, hence lost in a transfer.

RED said...

Like Steven, I would like it if I could recieve picture messages through texts, forward texts and cut/copy and paste like the Tilt. The keyboard is a little awkward for females as we tend to have nails...this phone has a lot of nice features but could use a little work.

Meatcircus said...

How about the ability to customize your txt tone? Or the ability to designate different tones for contacts?

ddmurray said...

I would appreciate the ability to TURN OFF the Ipod on the iPhone. I frequently listen to Pandora and find that out of nowhere my Ipod turns on by itself. This is frustrating. A switch such that turns Wi-Fi on and off would be great for this purpose.

Holding down the "home" button does not always work, I about through my phone across to the far end of a Kroger the other night.

Second, I would appreciate the ability to send template SMS texts. If I am in a meeting or another location where speed is of the essence, then being able to choose from a pre-created message that says "I am currently in a meeting, I'll contact you as soon as I can" would be great.

Third, I am somewhat OCD (anal) and think it would be great if there were an easier way to organize my icons. Try dragging a single icon from your first window across several windows to the last. This is a very time consuming issue. Maybe have an "organize" tab in Itunes when the phone is docked and have it show all of your installed application icons in their respective windows, and allow us to cut/paste or drag on our computer screens instead of the clunky manner we currently do on the Iphone itself.

Picture messaging. Picture messaging. Picture messaging. What a pain to have to go online, write down that ridiculous password, and then not even be able to save the picture!!!!! I'm a life-long mac user. iphone....you should be ashamed of yourself for not letting us have this. We certainly pay enough, and we all know you can make this one little adjustment happen.

It's fun to search for things and go there but a review section could be really awsome.. :) "it's the future!!" mtmbknyc@gmail.com

The G1 has the notification bar. It can also multi task, unbelievably well.
Apple needs to take from them and copy that brilliant idea of those.
If I could multi task on the iPhone AND have a notification type bar like that, it'd b perfect.

Unknown said...

A separate timer for locking the phone than the timer or button for just dimming(for power reduction)the display. One should not need to reenter the unlock code every 2 or 3 or 5 minutes when only trying to save the battery.

Unknown said...

Allow Visual voicemail for each contact. Say you are waiting for a colleague to call you back in the morning, but you need to take a shower. You would then be able to leave a personal voicemail messsage for that contact. This would be useful especially if the call was important.

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

I like Mike's idea - I would have phrased it as the ability to have an outgoing message based on incoming phone number. Also, by group, so you could have an outgoing message for family, another for co-workers, another for unknown callers, etc.

Unknown said...

Two icons are missing to improved the phone part of the iPhone

First an icon telling if unconditional call forwarding is active (this exist in almost all regular cell phone).

The seconde would be to indicate the the phone is in silent mode.

I would strongly encourage, along with many of my companions, that being able to download your texts onto your computer would be marvelous! There are many important texts that peple cannot bear to lose, but they get too messy on our iPhones.

It would be great for comments and clouds on PDFs to be displayed when they are opened from an email.

Apple really needs to fix the music app when the song title is too long it wont scroll across like the other ipods, another thing is the ability to quit like in Mac OS. X applications that run without being open to conserve RAM, also the ability to name the playlists on the iphone, the option to turn off each app so they wont be on the home screen, to change the background of the home screen picture.

where can i directly contact apple to suggest my ideas

wojodragon said...

i would like to suggest that there be an app game like the game line rider that would be awsome and make millions.

I would like to see one of the following:
1) Allow Skyfire on iPhone for Flash/Ajax/etc support
2) Support Flash on Mobile Safari

I love my 3G iPhone...but it seems archaic for it to NOT HAVE FLASH SUPPORT, copy/paste, etc...

Beiry said...

I would like to turn off the wifi without closing the curent application. It is really annoying when you're trying to send an email and realize you need to be on edge so you close the app go to settings and turn it off then go back to your email. Another example is if you are home and go to the web and now you want to use wifi cause it's much faster but you are already in safari; you have to go through the whole procedure again.

Unknown said...

I would suggest that the base OS (not 3rd party) support keeping multiple apps open in the background and being able to easily switch between the open apps. Especially now that the Palm Pre is able to do this!

If it already can do this and I just don't know about it, please clue me in! Also, does anybody know of a 3rd party app that does this without jailbreaking the phone?

Diane said...

It would be great if in settings you added the ability to arrange your icons by type, a-z etc, like you can on your computer desktop. It is very time consuming when you have a lot of apps to drag and drop when this could be done fast and easy.

It would be great if when you add a contact's birthday information, it gets loaded into the calendar as well. This way you can observe upcoming birthdays and if you need to look up any particular person's birthday, it's also in their contact info. Consider it!!

Steezy said...

Ability to have a Landscape Home Screen is highly needed now since 3.0 has released.

TonyCop said...

It would be great if there were an option to password lock select pictures in the camera roll. I do believe many people will find this useful, especially when others borrow your phone to use/play with it. Anything else that can be password protected?

Linds said...

In settings for each Application or even just the few key ones, there should be the option to turn on or off the automatic flip to horizontal viewing-- such as the SMS or emails. I understand a lot of people like this new feature, but if one ever looks at their phone laying on the couch or in bed, etc. it is a nightmare because the viewing screen keeps changing depending on your slightest angle. it should just be an option to turn off if one so desires.

Dane said...

color code texts, i.e.

pink = girlfriend
blue = business contacts
green = friends

text could include color schemes like on jailbroken phones.

Dane said...

sms current location via gps app.

whether from the text screen or from google maps, there should be a send location button to text or email someone in your contacts.

Pressing the ".?123" key twice will either give you a ? or ! character (make it configurable). Same functionality as double space bar = "?"

There are 6.5 million members on match.com http://uk.match.com/. Don't you think there is an opportunity for these members through an iphone application here?

Unknown said...

It would be really awesome if we could assemble and edit playlists on the iphone. I am never at my computer and am constantly working on playlists for friend mixes, weddings and other events. And if we could transfer those playlists from the iphone onto our computers. On-the-go just is not enough :)

Unknown said...

I'm having such a hard time scrolling in safari when the page is really long and cannot be shrunk down tomake it easier to reach the bottom. Flicking takes a minute on some forums and long google docs. If I'm not careful as I flick, I hit the top of the screen and get sent right back to the to to start over. My suggestion, Safari needs a shortcut to the bottom of pages to, or we need to be able to grab and drag the scrolling bar on the side to get where we need to fast. Thanks for taking the yime to let us users make suggestions. I hope spmeone puts these features in a future update.

Foreign God said...

My suggestion is to create the option to block phone numbers in the phone menu somewhere.

I have searched through all of the settings on my iPhone and I have not been able to find that option.

insouci said...

I would love to see more work on the calendar function. It would be great if there were an additional tab on the iTunes/iPhone screen for calendar - where users can edit and see a full sized calendar. AND/OR it would be nice if it would sync with google calendar like it does with google contacts. When repeating scheduled events - the option to repeat by the # of days would be most helpful for those who do shift work. The iPhone surpasses all other platforms with the exception of the "planning" features. This would win over a huge audience of people "stuck" on the palm platform.

insouci said...

OH one more thing regarding the calendar - When scheduling events it would be nice to have the option of adding a contact. Example - if I place an appointment on the calendar with my car mechanic, it would be nice to actually link it to that contact. So when I pull up the appointment, I have all the contact info or a link to the contact info. Helpful when looking at an address, or if I have to cancel or reschedule - the contact info is at my fingertips.

Unknown said...

When transferring Pictures from Iphone Camera, it would be nice if they would transfer onto the computer in the sequence they are in the camera. Right now they seem to be transfered in some random sequence and you have to fix the sequence which takes a LOT OF TIME!!!

Jason Rosenfelt said...

1.snooze option for calendar reminders.

2. Option to set reminder for appointments only on your phone, instead of on your phone and computer it's synched with.

3. Different tone options for distinguishing between multiple e-mail accounts.

This idea is probably the best ever for the iphone/ipod touch............. Apple taking the advice on this blog... i've seen maybe two out of the probably 80 or so comments be fulfilled by Apple. so far i haven't seen one extreme suggestion that Apple would have to rewrite the OS to do, they would simply be updates. all i want is the song name to scroll across to show the ENTIRE song not just the first half... its annoying. APPLE JUST CONSIDER THESE SUGGESTIONS!!!!

Unknown said...

One thing that would get Apple's attention would be if everyone who is reading this to go to this link

http://www.apple.com/support/feedback/

and copy this message (and your message suggestion) in the suggestion box: Apple please consider the consumers' suggestions. All of our ideas could improve your product and place it on top of the market.

or something else if you feel.
this is all just my opinion.

For the moment, if you decide te receive emails automaticaly, you will receive them 24/24. But it would be good if we could decide not to receive them during night hours. We should be able to choose a time scheddul for this!

On the iPod part "all songs" should have an image that is the same size as the album art so that it looks more like an option.

Example:
All songs
$$$ - blonde on blonde
$$$ - highway 64 revis.
$$$ - modern times

All songs should have some cool "all songs" 'album art' I always overlook the all songs option because without an image it looks like a title and not an option.

Also I pity the poor apple intern who has to look through these. Unless it ends up being me. Hey apple I need a job : )

Ever left your credit card at a bar (forgot to sign off your tab) or been round a friends house and forgot something you went round for in the first place? A great app could know if you had travelled within say 200 meters of the location you set and ping you an alarm or reminder of some sort. Unsure of programming but the iPhone knows where you are so if you left that location within a certain parameter it could send you a reminder and you could quickly go back before realizing only when you got home.

Please, please, please can you allow INDIVIDUAL deletes onto your Recent Calls lists. As a busy sales rep, I receive up to 50 calls per day & are continually trying to manage this list. No option to delete just the ones you've dealt with; you have to delete the entire list or none!! So time consuming having to always scroll thru the entire list & wonder who I've already rung & who I still need to deal with!! You can allow individual deletes with the SMS Messages, so why not the Recent Calls?? This is an ABSOLUTE MUST in the business world!!

Ally said...

Just thought of another idea if you're able to 'invent' this!! It would be great if we can have a choice of voicemail messages we can choose to activate in various situations (eg in a meeting; on holidays so call my PA, rather than having to re-record new messages to leave all the time. It wd be fantastic if we cd create a list of voicemail & just tick the one we wanted to use for that particular occasion. Don't know of ANY other mobile phone that can do this yet, so wd be a first for Apple!! Go you techs!!!

Unknown said...

Mail - When multiple accounts are activated provide a shortcut to easily switch between the accounts instead of having to back out from within a folder to the main screen.

Mail - Add "Select All" in Edit mode

Mail - Add Smart Folders

Messages - Allow ability to hide the name of the person that sent a text message

System Wide - Add an Expose type feature to easily see all "app screens"

System Wide - Add granular password protection to "Photos", "Messages", "Mail", "Notes"

Options in the setting screen to let apps run in the background, like pandora or police scanner type apps that way they don't lock the device to one thing. And an easy switch to turn them all off.

More options on the calendar, used to have a BB and that calendar is firstrate

more options for ringtones and alerts.... I don't mind buying them from apple... I do mind paying another $ to have a song I already bought be a ringtone... And a digital copy of the movies is 16$ ??? I find it hard to believe the overhead for that could be that high... So I don't buy

When texting.... Ability to switch the view back to just messages without the keyboard taking up the whole screen by tapping on the page above the keyboard so I don't have to exit the SMS and reenter

ability to have many things run in the background while plugged in to a charger with wifi and cellular networks being utilized, and auto off when unplugged

optional switch for where the sound comes out when plugged into a charger, sometimes it needs charged while listening to stuff through the phone speaker and that's not an option with chargers

pay attention to the jailbreak apps and functions they r building.... Some are very nice and appealling to users
it seems apple spends more time trying to lockout the jailbreaks more than improving the phone, it also seems that the jailbreakers r ur best source of input from users on what they want.... Adobe flashplayer anyone??

more personalization of the phone.... I don't want all the names of the apps on the home screen

an icon on the homescreen that will open a hidden page??with an optional password to enter the area?
I like my web shortcuts on the homescreen much better than going through the bookmarks list...

Bluetooth autostart?... Not the shortrange 30ft, the 300ft bluetooth or cellular?

A dedicated webpage for all things iPhone...holsters, cases
screen protectors, chargers.... Or at least the list that have the made for iPhone logo

more durable chargecord, chargecord that has a 90* at the phone connection

option to downgrade OS. I dislike 3.1 and 3.1.2.
My battery has never gone away so fast

I have no idea if it can be setup so everything runs off of the charge cord instead of relaying through the battery, but many users I know have it plugged in alot, because that's how they like to use them... I imagine that's not great for the battery life???

Hope u guys actually read this site
There r many great things about the iPhone, but the way apple is hellbent on propietary BS gets really old when u start running into digitalwalls.... If u don't want users to be able to use flashplayer... And other good products then u need to build a version we can use... That will get u more users.... Functionality first...sales will reflect

My Suggestion is we should have the ability to create a playlist on the Iphone based off of Genre, Album, artist while on the go.

kiimo said...

I agree, there should be a way to create a playlist on the iPhone. You can create a playlist in iTunes on your computer, but it would be nice to be able to create a playlist while listening to a song or browsing on your phone as well.

Hi, there's a real thing that have been forgotten on the iPhone, it is the possibility of deleting a call, only ONE call. I think it's not hard to make it possible so please developpers, let's make it possible. :)

Thanks.

For the alarm function on the phone, besides selecting from the default sound options, you should be able to choose a song or playlist from your song library, or even have a video play if you like.

pg.wstbrk said...

I think it would be nice to be able to customize your text message ringtone rather than having to choose from one of the default options. Also I think you should have the choice to set texts strictly to vibrate even when the phone is not on silent mode.

It would be nice to be able to bookmark where I left off in iPod on iPhone. I switch among audio books, music, podcasts, videos and often forget where I was especially in audio books and podcast.

I Suggest having a Flash Player for it. :]

The Calendar app needs more options. For one, I would like the option to start the week with Monday. Also, I wish the alarm clock was integrated to the calendar. Not a single bell sound, but an actual alarm that you have to turn off. The icon for the built in clock app is so ugly I don't use it.

What'd be awesome, is when you have a keyboard on; let's say German, have a second option to have "Auto Translate". When you have that setting on, and your German keyboard on, type something in english and have the translation of the sentence pop up in German.

I think it would be great if we could set ringtones for our text messages!

Unknown said...

When a calendar appointment appears as your reminder on your screen, it would be much better if it included the DATE of the appointment rather than "dentist appointment at 1pm" TOMORROW. The way it is now, it's not clear if "tomorrow" means today or the following day, depending on when you see the reminder.

I would like to have access to change my text message ringtone to something other than the one every other iPhone user has. I know there are a few to choose from but they all suck and Apple could at least give us more to choose from or the ability to switch it to whatever we want.

kiimo said...

I agree... The only ringtones that we can change to something rather than the preloaded ones is the incoming call ringtone.

Craig said...

2 things:

When you put enter birthday information into a contact, it should appear on the calendar. If users don't want their calendar bombarded with birthdays, it could be set as a seperate calendar item, so it can be toggled on/off.

The SMS menu should display Name then pager/mobile in case you are receiving multiple messages from the same contact but off different devices. It currently only displays their name, and can get confusing.

I have a iPhone 3G, I think you should be able to delete just one number out of your call log instead of having to delete them all. Who agrees

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

I agree with deleting entries from the call log selectively. Sometimes I want to delete just the missed calls, sometimes, those are the only ones that I want to keep.

For some callers, I just want to keep a record of the last call they made, deleting the prior records automatically.

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

I would like to block caller ID based on the number I'm calling. It could be an attribute in the contact "Block caller ID to this number?"

kabe243 said...

I woUld suggest that on the keyboard when you hit shift and then delete the deletion would go in the opposite direction. A small thing but very usefull.

Given the folders feature of the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0, I'd think that a 3x3 grid structure (shouldn't need 11 anymore) to the home pages, with diagonal swipe gesture ability, would be a much better option.

The centre page would obviously be the homepage, and it would mean you're never more than 2 swipes away from another page, not 8 using the current structure.

I have 90+ apps on my iPhone 3Gs and it would be useful to be able to organize them and create my own titles or labels for the top of each page of apps: Travel, Shopping, Finance, Games, etc.

I really wish that on the iPhone I could record different voicemail greetings for different people. Then I could have an informal one for friends and family, and a formal one for everyone else.

In the calendar, you should be able to set a reoccuring event for a day of the month (first Thursdays, second Wednesdays, etc.).

You should also be able to click on the address field in a calendar event and it should automatically find that location on the map for you.

The new screen lock feature in ios4 should lock the screens current position not just horizontal. (maybe just make the home screen auto remove?) and maybe full rotation? I like using my phone upside down so my music is louder to others.

Larry said...

How about an Iphone 4 option to change text messaging tones to make them louder and longer, like a ring tone. Why not give the user the option?

I work as a Battalion Chief of a fire department. When my department has an emergency they use text messaging to notify the off duty guys of a problem so we can respond back to the station. I miss the night time calls because the quick quiet chirps and dings are not enough to wake me up.

Why not just provide that option in an update?

Unknown said...

Sometimes I click the Home button to get to the first page of apps forgetting that I'm already there, so then it opens the Spotlight. At this point my thumb has already left the Home button, poised to select an App. To then have to select the Home button feels a bit awkward. It would be great if tapping the empty area below Spotlight's search field took me straight back to the first page of apps.

The Mac Address Book should allow the option to save new phone numbers with "TODAY'S DATE" time stamp as the label name or at least automatically show the date added somewhere.

People like me that do business on the phone constantly need to add new numbers for old contacts often and it's too much of a hassle to log all the information, delete old numbers and create a new custom labels. If there was a "Date Stamp" I'd know the newest number I've logged for the customer easily.

I'd most like to see "DATE" as an option of label names to choose from.

**for example**

work
home
date
other
---------
custom

This is the best idea I've had for the phone, but I've got more.

Being able to play songs on shuffle but have the option to click a specific song and then it goes back to random after that song is done. Read it twice or even 3 times. Once you get it, you will understand that would be sweet.

It would be nice to be able to forward text messages as a whole message and not have to copy and paste each part individually. Also having the option to customize text tones would be nice. Everyone uses the same tone because its the only one you can hear. It gets annoying. Please anyone create an app for text tones.

fdsafsafdsafdsa said...

It would be very nice if after ending a call, the iPhone would NOT stay in the phone application, leaving the Recents or Contacts list up, ready for "butt" or "purse" dialing. Countless times, I have accidentally dialed someone after ending a call and putting the phone in my pocket. I have tried selecting the keypad, which helps, for a while. I would rather the phone go back to the menu pages.

It would be nice if you could change the sound toggle on the side to do other things like lock the touch screen or even better the option to have it lock the whole phone, the home key, volume buttons and power button. I have a 18 month old and she likes watching her shows on it when we're out in stores or something. But every time she touches the screen it shows all the info and usually gets paused or she hits the done button or home key.

By far, Apple's I phone is the best phone on the market. You can get a bigger screen, and a phone that allows HDMI hook up. All neat ideas, but none of them hold a candle in the end, to the Iphone. Yet ALL smart phones, including Iphone, lack things that make them in my opinion, not smart, but semi talented phones.

Examples:

Why is it, that my Samsung phone from six years ago would offer to add text that it didn't have to the library of words it has to correct you on? Why doesn't my smart phone learn!?!

Why when I am typing and it offers a possible correction to a word, does it just automatically change that word if I don't press the word it is offering, to cancel the change? I should hit the correction to make the correction. The phone just assumes way too much.

Why does an app suggests another application or a function that another application has. But once I go to that other application it has no idea why I am there. Why doesn't the phone know while I'm in safari and the page is asking me to go to an app that it suggests, I have to enter all new information into that app that I just entered into safari. Or better yet why when I play angry birds, is the app giving me an advertisement to the very game I am playing?

With the amount of computing power these phones have, they should be learning from our every day use, and anticipating what it is we are looking for. Applications should be interacting with each other. But unfortunately if I have a calendar program that has the option for tasks. Then I go and buy an app that is only for tasks, those apps don't communicate at all.

I know the obvious answers to these questions. But to me, a smart phone should mean that it has some kind of A.I. helping to navigate around it's self. Some kind of A.I. Helping to improve the daily functions and use around the user. My phone does the same thing that my desktop does. Individual programs that don't work together at all. I don't call my computer a smart computer. These phones in my opinion have a long way to go until I call them smart. They are Semi Talented at best.

P.S.- Why is the Bluetooth on and off switch on my iPhone buried in the general tab? Why is it not an icon, or at the very least a switch right under the airplane mode switch? I would think that's an obvious place for it. Why do I even have to ask that question!?! That individual placement of the Bluetooth button was not thought out at all. Congratulations Apple.

Jon L. Staples said...

P.S.S- Thanks for reminding me Bgtiii.

Why when you are deleting E mails, is there not a select all button?

Again, why would I have to ask this question? It just seems painfully obvious that there should be.

I wish I could remember all my rants about this phone. Because there is more. I wouldn't ever go to another phone. So I hope someone at Apple reads this page. Because I would have designed the software, not differently, but at least in a way, more customize-able.

I love my iPhone 4 and will be upgrading to a iPhone 4S But I was really disapointed with the same lame exterior you've had for a few years. It would be nice to have the same exterior like the Apple iPod Touch that would be translucent and each iPhone should have different colors and bigger screen light in weight. Also it would be nice if the txt messages bubbles could have different colors example I would be pink and jon doe would be blue

I think it would be amazing if the next iPhone software update added an option to turn on "dial 911 from pocket" functionality. To ensure all dials are intentional, it would only call if the person hit the outside buttons in a specific order. For example:

power button, volume up, volume down, power button, volume up, volume down

Ideally it would send GPS coordinates and signal to the emergency response team that you are unable to speak but need urgent help. Or perhaps if 911 via SMS text ever becomes popular, it would simply send an emergency text.

I work nights and sleep days. I would like to be able to put my phone on silent, but still be able to pick certain contacts (my kids, wife, school, etc...) that would still ring outloud. My family knows not to call unless it is important, but some others dont.

Kenthop said...

have an app to map out everywhere you went for a certain time period. It would be good to check where your kids went, OR say your walking on a hiking trail and take different trails, You could use it to find your way out, OR see how far you walked or rode (dirt bikes)

kiimo said...

Profiles would be nice for the iPhone, such as setting a time to ring if someone calls, or setting a time (at night when sleeping) to vibrate or be silent.

I do not know if anyone acts on these but i have been looking for an app (s) which 1. Goes to create a calendar event after a call; automaticall inserts that number and/or contact into subject of appointment. I often get a call and then have to create a calendar reminder to do that thing.
2. Same Idea but an app that creates a calendar appointment from GPS info using current date and location information to track your day / billing information If anyone knows of such apps please PM me at ghavlovic@gmail.com

This idea is to move the siri button to a different location on the iphone. When I talk into siri I press the button and place the phone in my hand but if the button was located just below the volume buttons or towards the center of the phone one can basically use the phone similar to the way police officers or truckers use the Citizen Band (CB) radio instead of trying to hold it with your thumb on siri and placing the phone in your hand but not very secure causing it to fall due to the awkwardness. By placing the button in the center on the side, one can push the button with his or her thumb, release and speak into siri while maintaining a good grip on the phone. I bet if you sample a group of people who have dropped the iphone, this would be part of the problem.

It would be great to be able to clear out app caches on the phone, instead of having to use iFunBox on my MacBook. Also, adding the ability to use my own custom EQ setting on the music player would rock.
